The author was particularly gifted in narrating her personal memoir from the point of view of an 8 year old - the author herself - as she tried to make sense of life around her. Highly recommend.|About the Author|The author has entertained herself by writing stories and journal entries for years. This is her first published book. She grew up in Sharon, a small town in the Northeast, where much of White Bread America takes place.
Snapshots of White Bread America is a novella-length memoir about an eight year old girl growing up in the 50s. The story follows Fern's life from mid-summer 1955 to her birthday party at the end of the school year 1956. The events are ordinary, the objects and routines commonplace but the girl's detailed observations and the thread of silence and familial tension engage the reader. We may not learn the exact questions but we yearn to know the answers.
